Mental Health Awareness Month

I created this piece, True Lies, to mark the first day of mental health awareness month. Over the next month I will be sharing lessons I’ve learned from my education, my clinical training and experience, hundreds of conversations with patients, my own battle with anxiety, ADHD and addiction, and the unparalleled, transformative power of faith in mental health and mental illness.

I will add a disclaimer before these posts because I know I sometimes make some of you anxious or worried when I talk about my mental health. Please remember that I am a hospital chaplain. This is my domain and helping others heal is why God put me on this Earth.

Please take care of your mental health. It’s not optional, especially for men and women of God.

“Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16‬:‭32‬ ‭

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭
